the unpolished writers club

Tired of putting your writing on the back burner?

I know, there is literally always something else to do—something more important. But what’s more important than your creative expression and dream of becoming an author?!

Okay fine, putting food on the table is more important, but you catch my drift. When you think about writing your book, I know you get excited, but that excitement is tinged with resignation. Because…

→ It feels like you’ll always have one more load of laundry to do before you can get to writing.

→ When you do have time, you have no idea where to start, so you flit between research and character sketches and outlines, never really making progress on anything.

→ You never know when you’ll have time to write again, so your sessions are full of pressure to get out as many words as possible, and it’s paralyzing.

→ You have no one to talk to about your pacing or prose or story structure (and when it comes to writing, only other writers get it).

Good news: It doesn’t have to be that way!

You deserve a steady, sustainable writing
practice and a community that supports you.

It’s time to trade in:

❌ Staring at a blank page and feeling zero inspiration or direction for…

✅ falling into creative flow because you know exactly what you’re writing.

❌ Your inconsistent writing “routine” (which is really just squeezing in five minutes of typing in your notes app while waiting in line at the grocery store) for…

✅ a standing appointment with your writing every week, and the confidence to find your own writing rhythm.

❌ Having basically no one to talk to about your grand ideas for worldbuilding or the self-help book you needed five years ago for…

✅ a community of writers on the same journey with the same dreams and who just get it.

Weekly Co-Writing Sessions

With morning and evening sessions, our set appointments make it so you can show up for yourself and your writing at least once a week—without wondering when you’ll find the time.

A BIPOC-Majority Online Community

Where you can connect with other writers who understand the experience of being a writer of color. When we get together, we talk books, wins, writing challenges, and more. Plus, you can ask questions and get expert guidance (mine) whenever you need a little extra support.

Access to a Book Planner + Other Resources

I’ve set up a handy dandy Notion portal with all the exercises I bring my private coaching clients through when we’re planning their books. With prompts for fiction, nonfiction, and memoir, this planner has everything you need to set up a solid foundation for your book, so when it comes to drafting, you always know what to work on next.

So, what do you say? Do you wanna keep stalling and seeing no progress on your book for another five years? Or are you ready to make time for your author dreams?

“As a writer, I really hadn’t found my people. I knew they were out there somewhere, but I just couldn’t seem to find them. And now I have.

That has made a world of difference in my life and how I think about my writing and myself as a writer. I don’t write in one genre or style, which has made it difficult to find my people. I’m typically too much of one thing or not enough of another to find a comfortable fit in any group. In the time I’ve been part of the Unpolished Writers Club, I've worked on  nonfiction academic pieces, plays, applications, and fiction. Invariably someone in the group has expressed their interest in my work and excitement about how it’s going.

The other members are invested in their own writing, my writing, and  showing up for the group and themselves. That's very different from other writing groups I've been in before, where interest usually waned until the group fizzled out. I love the weekly writing group sessions. The body-doubling, accountability, and camaraderie of them provide immense value for me.

Sabrina has provided a wonderful space for growth and community. I’m delighted to be a part of it.

You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers.

  • Mondays at 6:30 p.m. CT and Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. CT, we meet as a group for 90 minutes and write! Cameras and mics are always optional, and we have two 35-minute sprints with a break between. You can come and go as you please.

  • Yes! We have a biweekly Q+A post where you can ask questions specific to your project, and I’ll answer you the best I can. You’re also welcome to ask me questions during co-writing.

  • Because I was tired of showing up to writing classes, industry events, and other writerly spaces and being the only brown dot in a sea of white faces. I say all the time that publishing is white as f*ck, but what would I look like complaining about that and not doing anything about it??

So in support of my business’s overall mission to add more color to the bookshelves, I decided to create this accessible space where we are prioritized. Our stories, experiences, and expertise are valuable, and we deserve to share them with the world. But we have to write them first, and the Unpolished Writers Club was created so we’d have a place to do that.

  • Yes! We welcome all creatives! There are members who use our co-writing time to write for their Substack or newsletter; to write poetry, essays, and flash fiction; and even just to journal (that may just be me, hehe).

  • I don’t have the capacity for free trials just yet. But maybe in the future!

meet your club host

Hi, Friend! I’m Sabrina :)

Book Coach, Editor, and Founder of Unpolished Words, a writer-first sanctuary for BIPOC authors where you can feel safe and supported to write the book you need to write.

With me as your all-in-one book coach, editor, cheerleader, challenger, and accountability partner, you’ll have the support you need to raise your voice and hone your writing skills so people can stop saying, “Someone should write a book about that” when you tell them your idea, and start saying, “Omg I can’t wait to read your book!”

Unpolished Writers Club Application

In order to keep the Unpolished Writers Club a BIPOC-majority group, I’ve set up this “application” so I have an idea of who’s joining the community.

If you identify as BIPOC, you’ll be taken to the payment page once you submit! And if you are an ally, rather than a writer of color, you *may* be redirected to the ally waitlist, as ally member spots are limited.
